Investigation and evaluation of drinking water source and water quality standard regulation items

Absrtact
For limited land area and high population density, it is difficult to separate water source area and economic activity area. Management of watersheds and water source conservation districts faced great challenges. Therefore, there is risk of contamination of drinking water sources and might affect water security. This project implement the contaminants screening for drinking water quality regulation by updating the Contaminant Candidate List (CCL) Universe and Preliminary CCL (PCCL). There are 467 contaminants in the CCL Universe-104 and 84 contaminants in the PCCL-104. The monitoring results of CCL-103 were evaluated. Ther results were all lower than half of the healthy reference level or the lowest regulation/guideline value. Therefore, it is not necessary to consider the regulation of the contaminants in the CCL-103. Besides, the health effect and occurrence information of contaminants in Preliminary CCL were collected to evaluate if the contaminants should be included into CCL. For implementing the contaminants screening for drinking water quality regulation, 6 organic compounds (1,2-Dibromoethane, 1,1,2-Trichloroethane, 1,2,3-Trichloropropane, 1,2-Dibromo-3-chloropropane, hexachlorobenzene, and hexachlorocyclopentadiene) which without their occurrence information were seleted from PCCL-103 to be monitored in 6 drinking water treatment plants and evaluted their heaklthy risk. Except 1,2-Dibromoethane, other organic compounds III were not detected in all drinking water treatment plants, and also in the drinking water treatment units in the process, in the three monitors conducting in this project. In addition, this project reviewed the drinking water source quality regulation. Cosidering the climate change and the development of industries may lead to great challenge of lack of water resource, this project suggest to change the drinking water source quality “regulation” “guideline value”, which just as reference for water companies.
